Paris 2024
Olympic village tour

The former olympic village

Presentation :

Discover how the former Paris 2024 Olympic Village has been transformed into a new piece of city. Straddling three cities in Seine-Saint-Denis, this gigantic “dormitory” built to house 15,000 athletes was designed according to a principle of reversibility, allowing for new uses. It must now meet the needs of the area : improved connectivity, housing and social diversity (6,000 residents will live there), public facilities, offices and economic activities. The focus on sustainable development and energy efficiency was also leading the project.

Led by architect Dominique Perrault, the urban project integrates the site into its existing industrial landscape and reconnects it to the river by redeveloping the banks of the Seine. Public spaces and inner courtyards have been extensively landscaped to create ecological continuities. Six urban units, known as “boat-islands” were defined, favoring the form of well-aligned and elegant block structures. Ground-floor retail spaces and cultural equipments such as the “center for urban arts” are expected to further enrich this mixed-use development, intended to embody the “city of tomorrow” : ecological, high-quality and convivial.
